A laptop battery consists of internal power cells. These cells help battery to maximize the level of voltage required. Good batteries regulate the process of discharging and overcharging well, so that damage is not done to the laptop during charging. Laptop batteries run either on Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), or Lithium Polymer (Li-Poly). Most notebooks use expensive Li-Ion batteries. They are expensive because li-ion packs have an in-built internal circuit that prevents overcharging which can put your notebook ablaze. For even better functioning, universal laptop batteries should not be overlooked. These batteries use superior technology to Li-Ion, employing the use of Lithium Polymer (Li-Poly). This technology is light-weight and specially designed to resist overcharging and leakage.
Life spans of these batteries, either used or not, is 2-3 years. They can only be charged for 500-600 times, after which they have to be replaced with new batteries. To enhance the life of battery, they should be stored in a cool place when not in use. |
