Apple G4
Between the years 2001-2006, Apple Inc. manufactured a series of Powerbook Apple G4 that uses PowerPC G4 processor. The Powerbook was quite a success in the beginning of 2001 but in 2005 and 2006 the popularity waned despite its extraordinary competence. This Apple Powerbook is known for being so small, compact and slim, which is only 1” thick, very light and easy to carry everywhere. The design was also very contemporary and unique, compared to other laptops available on the market. Powerbook Apple G4 comes in two kinds of designs which are Titanium and Aluminum. Titanium The Titanium Apple Powerbook has a 15” screen and equipped with a black-colored keyboard. Features that are available on Titanium Powerbook includes 2 built-in USB ports, a 56k modem, CD/DVD drive, CD/DVD burner, VGA output, a built-in microphone, a PC card slot, etc. As Apple Inc. always wanted to increase the quality of the Titanium Powerbook, between 2001-2003, Apple released some modifications which were:

Aside from being super trendy with great operational performance, the quality of the components are rather questionable because it tends to be very fragile under certain circumstances. It is possible to repair the Apple Powerbook but it will not perform as spectacularly as before.
Aluminum Aluminum Powerbook is the latest generation of Apple G4. It was first introduced in 2003, two years after Titanium Powerbook was promoted on the market. While Titanium Powerbook had 15” screen width, the Aluminium Powerbook was released with 12” and 17” screen widths. The design is very similar with Titanium Powerbook, and sometimes if a person looks at a series of laptops, he or she would need some time to differentiate Apple G4, whether it is Titanium or Aluminum. While the specifications are almost the same, some features have been improved compared to the Titanium Powerbook. For example, the USB system is much faster, has a FireWire 800 (while the Titanium has FireWire 400), and a Bluetooth. Some time after Aluminum Powerbook was released, Apple Inc. decided to create a 15” version of it in order to reach a larger market. The differences between the 12”, 15” and 17” screens are the model and shape. Aluminum Powerbook with 15” and 17” screen is designed as a wide screen model, while the 12” screen has a shape like the other typical computer screens. Around the year 2005, Apple Inc. started to use a new technology device called SMS or Sudden Motion Sensor which is very useful to observe and sense sudden movement. This way, the Powerbook is protected from any damage that may occur on the hard disk. After the invention of this new device, Apple G4 seemed to gain back its popularity. |
